ONE mountain is not enough for a group of Cirencester walkers.

Four friends will take on the National Three Peak Challenge next month to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The gruelling challenge involves walking the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales.

Andy Spence, of South Cerney, said the group, who have played football together since the age of eight, all had personal reasons to support the cause.

He said: "My father died from cancer in 1998 and I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in situ which was caught at an early stage.

"It will be quite a challenge as we have to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales within 24 hours. We all travel to Glasgow on the Friday night to start at Ben Nevis.

"One thing we are worried about is stiffening up in the minibus as there will be five hours of climbing followed by a six hour drive.

"We might have to give each other a massage on the bus but despite that we are still looking forward to the challenge."
