A BROTHER and sister from Tetbury raised almost £11,000 by running 150 miles in five days last week.

Guy and Pippa Mitchell set off from seaside town Salcombe in Devon on Monday and arrived at their hometown at 5pm on Friday.

The pair ran the equivalent of nearly six marathons to raise money for charities Cotswold Care Hospice, Cardiac Risk in the Young and The Prostate Cancer Company.

Birmingham University student Guy, 19, said they had originally hoped to raise £9,000, so were delighted they had exceeded their target.

“We want to thank everyone who has supported us,” he said. “We really appreciate it and all the money will be going to good causes.”

He added they had been battered by strong north-easterly winds and Pippa, 22, a physical education teacher at a Cambridge school, suffered problems with her knee.

“We went too quickly on the first day and Pip’s knee played up,” he said. “For me the hardest part was the hills coming out of Salcombe.”

The pair were followed on their journey by dad Nick, a Cheltenham accountant, and mum Gaye, a physiotherapist at the Cotswold Care Hospice and sister Lucy in a rickshaw and support vehicle and were welcomed to Tetbury by members of the hospice charity.

Cotswold Care Hospice chief executive Jules Eaton said he was “absolutely thrilled” by Guy and Pippa’s efforts.
