Tetbury residents come together to create new community orchard thanks to the Feoffees

GREEN-FINGERED residents in Tetbury got their hands dirty last week to create a new community orchard.
The project next to the Cirencester Road car park was set up by the Feoffees – a charitable Tetbury organisation dating back to the 17th century – with 44 town organisations getting involved to sponsor and plant the trees last Saturday.
Feoffees member William Cook said every one of the apple trees planted was a different variety and each organisation involved was able to take the fruit from their own tree at harvest time.
“The idea was to bring to town together,” he said.
“It is quite a thing to get that many people in one place and the enthusiasm was amazing.”
Photos were taken of every person taking part in the planting event and these will be displayed in the Market Hall.
The Feoffees are now planning to plant wild flowers around the orchard and hope it will become a haven for wildlife.
