VOTERS will get the chance to elect a new Cirencester town councillor next week.

On Thursday, January 10, three candidates will do battle in the by election for a seat on the Stratton-Whiteway ward.

In the mix is Lib Dem candidate and former Cirencester Chamber of Commerce president Mark Harris, Green Party representative Robert Irving, and Robert Stephens who is standing for UKIP.

Neither the Tory or Labour parties have put forward a candidate.

The seat became available in October last year when Siobhan Brasier resigned due to university studies in Cardiff.

Siobhan was elected unopposed in April 2011 and – at the age of 18 and four months – was the youngest town councillor to have been elected in Cirencester’s history.

Votes can be made at Stratton Village Hall or Cirencester Rugby Club. For more information, contact Cirencester Town Council on 01285 655646.
