ROAD users are being advised to check their route for delays and to check weather conditions before they travel as more heavy rain is expected across the Cotswolds through this evening and into tomorrow morning.

The Highways Agency, which manages motorways and major A roads in England, and its contractors are working closely with the Met Office, the Environment Agency and the Police to reduce disruption from the severe weather.

Gill Risdale, Highways Agency South West Operations Manager said: "We have been working hard over the weekend to ensure our roads are affected as little as possible by the heavy rain. The forecast is for more heavy rain this evening and tonight.

"We encourage road users to check weather forecasts and traffic conditions before they set out, drive according to the conditions and be prepared to slow down. We are setting our message signs to warn of hazardous conditions but ask drivers to pay attention and observe the warnings."

Highways Agency traffic officers across the South West will be monitoring weather and traffic conditions around the clock and will be on hand to quickly respond to incidents.

  • Real-time traffic information for England’s motorways and other strategic roads is available on the web at highways.gov.uk/traffic or by phone from the Highways Agency Information Line on 0300 123 5000 at any time. (Calls to 0300 numbers will cost no more than 5p per minute from a standard BT residential landline.)
