Tetbury and Tetbury Upton parishes could be set to merge
4:20pm Tuesday 30th October 2012 in Cotswolds news By Ian Craig
TWO parish wards in the Tetbury area could be set to merge.
Cotswold District Council are currently carrying out a Community Governance Review, which may involve some parish boundaries changing.
At last week’s meeting of Tetbury Parish Council councillors said although many of the various large developments either proposed or set to go ahead in the area fall within Tetbury Upton Parish, they will have a significant impact on the town.
Vice Chairman Cllr Tony Walsh said the changes to the area may make it beneficial to amalgamate both parishes, although no action would be taken unless both councils agreed.
“Tetbury Upton may be against that and we have to go with their wishes but we have to look at the potential benefits of that option,” he said.
Tetbury Upton Parish Council chairman Roy Eastlake said they were currently in talks with Tetbury Town Council around the options, adding: “We will try to come up with an amiable agreement which benefits everyone in the area.”
UPDATE: Tetbury mayor Cllr Rob McCorkell confirmed there are currently no plans to merge the two parishes, but both councils were currently looking at their options under CDC’s Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment.
