Fundraising campaign launched to save historic Cotswolds church
A HISTORIC Cotswolds church needs thousands of pounds of repair work on its damaged roof.
An inspection of the roof of the Grade One listed St Margaret’s Church in Bagendon in 2011 revealed serious damage to some sections of the roof.
Church warden Alison Saunders said an architects had given a quote of £52,786 for the repairs, which she described as “A daunting sum for such a small community of some sixteen households”.
“The damage has been caused by the last two hellishly heavy winters,” she said. “Because it’s low down in the valley the frost sits on it and doesn’t go away for days.
“It’s been a focal point of the village for years as we don’t have a pub or a shop.”
She added applications had been made for grants to fund the repairs and fundraising events would be held in the future.
Roof tiles can also be sponsored at £20 each, or £75 each for ridge tiles.
