'Carbuncle' secures planning permission 'Carbuncle' secures planning permission

VILLAGERS in Moreton-in-Marsh have been left "heartbroken" after planning permission was granted for a "carbuncle" home at Bourton-on-the-Hill.

The planning application was narrowly approved at a meeting of Cotswold District Council’s planning committee last week, by just one vote.

CDC ward member Cllr Julian Beale asked the planning committee to throw out the plan saying it was "a carbuncle on the hill" that local residents feared would dominate the village.

The plans were originally approved in 1999 and the owner had applied to renew that permission.

Alexia Monroe, clerk to Blockley Parish Council, said 28 letters of objection had been sent in.

"This is unprecedented in a community of 200 people," she said. "It is absolutely heartbreaking."

CDC's planning committee had visited the site before backing the plans.
