Deadline for Gloucestershire children's hospice voting is this Friday, October 5

ACORNS Children's Hospice is appealing for votes after being shortlisted for the Best Use of Mobile Fundraising in the 2012 Digital Fundraising Awards.

The local charity, which cares for life-limited and life-threatened children from Gloucestershire, Hereford and Worcestershire, has been shortlisted for the award, following a hugely successful text-to-donate challenge with partner Aston Villa Football Club.

Elinor Eustace, corporate partnerships manager for Acorns, said: “We’re really pleased to be nominated for a digital fundraising award following the campaign and it would be fantastic if our supporters could take a few minutes out of their day and vote for us.”

Votes can be made every day however; only one vote can be made per IP address, per day. Deadline for votes is this Friday, October 5, with the awards ceremony taking place on October 9.

The challenge, which took place during Villa’s home game against Fulham on September 17 last year, was for football fans to raise the most amount of money using text donations during a premier league match.

Villa legend and fan favourite, Paul McGrath, took to the pitch at half-time, to ask the crowd to get their mobile phones out and donate using the first ever free text donation service, JustGivingText by Vodafone. Every penny donated went directly to the charity and the service also allowed people to claim Gift Aid to increase their donation and help Acorns raise even more money.

£7,500 was raised during the game, a record amount collected by Acorns through a match day collection.
