A VAN driver who died in a head-on crash with a lorry near Northleach yesterday came from Gloucestershire.

The 49-year-old man, from Longhope near the Forest of Dean, was killed when his blue Peugeot van was destroyed in a crash with a heavy goods vehicle on the A40 near Windrush at around 12.05pm.

An air ambulance and other emergency services scrambled to the scene but the man had already died by the time they arrived.

The man’s family and coroner have since been informed, but his body is yet to be formally identified.

The HGV driver was taken by ambulance to Cheltenham General Hospital, suffering from minor injuries and shock.

It is unclear how the crash happened. The vehicles were heading in different directions along the road and the HGV, which was travelling in the direction of Northleach, was found to have partly swerved off the road and into a field after the collision.

Investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information has been asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 159 of September 19.
