Former Malmesbury mayor launches new guide to bridges walk
1:00pm Thursday 20th September 2012 in News By Tina Robins
THE historic bridges surrounding Malmesbury are highlighted in a new walking guide brought out following last year’s mayoral appeal.
Walk over Water not only signposts the five-mile route around the town, but provides a handy guide to its past.
Cllr Steve Cox announced his ambition to establish way marked footpaths when he took office in 2011.
“It is trying to bring a walking activity into the community that everyone can enjoy,” he explained.
“These days there are lots of children who have never walked five miles.”
The booklet, available from the tourist information centre, is being launched officially on Saturday with a group walk setting off from outside PD Fitness at 11am.
“I’m hoping to have as many people involved as possible, especially children,” he said.
The walk is part of an Olympic-themed weekend which includes a mass Zumbathon in St Aldhelm’s Mead before the town’s first half marathon on Sunday.
