Sniffer dogs seek out new training venues
3:00pm Tuesday 18th September 2012 in News
DOGS that have been trained to search for drugs, cash and firearms are now sniffing out free training locations to improve their skills.
Gloucestershire Constabulary's Dogs Unit are appealing to the community for new places to train a total of 19 German shepherds and spaniels.
The clever canines are poised to fight crime every day of the year and have been trained to search property and people, track down offenders, disarm criminals and protect the innocent.
Dog Handler PC Claire Todd said they would welcome all kinds of occupied or unoccupied buildings, but would ideally like factories, office buildings, builders’ yards, barns or sports centres.
PC Todd said: "The more buildings we have to use as training venues the better for the dogs, so they do not get used to searching the same places all the time."
To find out more or to offer property for training, call Gloucestershire Police on 101.
