A LONG-HAIRED graphic designer from Cirencester who has had his hair cut only once in nine years is set to lose his locks for charity.

Tom Bull, 25, has been growing his hair since he was 16 years old and is set to go under the clippers in October to raise money for Cancer Research UK while his hair will be donated to Locks Of Love – a charity making wigs for children with cancer.

Tom said he had made the decision in memory of his two grandmothers, who had both died of cancer.

“I had a commemorative tattoo done for both of them and I’ve also been involved in a number of events as well, but I thought I wanted to do something a bit more personal,” he said.

“I’ll get my ponytail cut off first as its got to be a certain length and its got to be properly pinned and things like that so Locks of Love can take it.

“After that I’ll let my work colleagues loose with the clippers and they can massacre me.”

Tom, who is also a touring musician and has lived in Cirencester all his life, said there was no getting around the fact that his whole image was set to suffer.

“It’s part of the whole ‘rock’ image really, having long hair,” he said.

“It’s going to be a bit of a shock – my family and friends say they’re quite nervous.

“My partner says she’s quite worried as well.

“I’ll probably have to start wearing a lot of hats.”
