The Wellington Inn, Moreton-in-Marsh, is to be converted to flats

A NINETEENTH century pub in the centre of Moreton-in-Marsh is to be converted into flats.

At last week’s meeting of Cotswold District Council ’s planning committee, permission was given to convert the Grade II listed Wellington Inn on London Road into six flats and to build a new two-bedroom building in the car park.

Cllr Margaret Rickman (Lib Dem, Chesteron), said she was concerned the application, which also included the creation of a new entrance off Evenlode Road, replacing the existing entrance into the car park from London Road, had not been properly developed.

“The government keeps changing regulations and we’re being rushed into things,” she said. “I feel this application could be a lot better.”

Moreton-in-Marsh ward Cllr Robert Dutton (Con, Moreton-in-Marsh) “The most important thing is that this landmark listed building is safeguarded, he said.

“This will cause some anger among the local residents in terms of parking, but I think that’s inevitable.”

Although the applicant, David Dobson, had already lodged an appeal after the decision was deferred from August’s meeting, this will be dismissed after the application was approved.
