THE cause of a fire that destroyed a significant part of a historic Wiltshire manor house is being investigated.

Crews from as far away as Melksham were called in to fight the blaze at Luckington Manor near Malmesbury on Friday afternoon and firefighters remained at the scene for much of the weekend.

The blaze, which affected around 35 percent of the listed building, destroyed a large section of the roof and first floor. It is thought to have started in one of the master bedrooms. Three members of staff were in the house but got out safely and raised the alarm.

Firefighters from Malmesbury were first on the scene with crews from Tetbury, Chippenham, Cirencester and other stations across Wiltshire following. They worked with staff to salvage as much furniture and possessions as possible.
