Appeal made over suspected West Essex rapist
AN APPEAL had been made to trace a suspected rapist thought to be living in the Chinese community somewhere in the UK.
A 32-year-old Chinese woman was sexually assaulted in a flat above the Happy Garden Takeway in Wareley, near Brentwood, West Essex in the early hours of Tuesday April 24.
The culprit is believed to be 37-year-old Cheng He of no fixed address and is thought to be living among the Chinese community somewhere in the UK.
Investigating Officer DC Nigel Garwood said the language barrier between officers and the victim had drawn the investigation out longer than it might otherwise have been.
“We have a suspect and we need people to help us arrest him so that we can put the allegations made against him to him,” he said.
“We would ask people to look closely at his picture and his name and contact us with his whereabouts.”
Anyone with information in connection with this rape is urged to contact detectives at Brentwood’s sexual offences investigation team on 101.
