A SOUTH Cerney man died when he was hit by a car in the early hours of this morning.
The 24-year-old local man was walking along the B4696 Spine Road close to the crossroads with Broadway Lane and Wickwater Lane at around 12.30am when he was hit by a car and suffered fatal injuries.
His next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
Police believe at least one car, which failed to stop is involved.
Investigating officer Detective Ruth Mather said she would like to hear from anyone who was driving along the road between 12.15am and 12.30am this morning.
"We want to build up a clear picture of the events leading up to this tragic incident,” she said.
"This man was wearing a dark top and a dark coloured baseball cap and anyone who saw him walking in this area should call police.
"The driver of this vehicle needs to think about the consequences of his or her actions and for the sake of this young man's family I would urge them to come forward.
"The car involved could well have been damaged as a result of this incident. Anyone who notices a neighbour's car with new damage to the front of their vehicle should call us."
The road is closed between Station Road and Ham Lane, Wickwaters Lane and Broadway Lane is also closed between Spine Road and South Cerney village. The closures are likely to remain for several hours whilst investigations continue.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Gloucestershire police on 101, quoting incident 27 of August 19.
