Explore your family tree with Malmesbury church

MALMESBURY United Reformed Church is celebrating its 350th birthday by offering people the chance to find their ancestors.

This year marks the anniversary of the Great Ejection of 1662, which is generally believed to be the birth of the country’s non-conformist churches.

As part of a series of events on August 18 and 19 local historians Sara Crabb and Graham Allnatt have teamed up with the church to help locals explore their family trees and learn about the church from the English Civil War up to modern times.

The doors will be open between 10am and 5pm on both days, with displays of old photographs, maps, artefacts and church registers. A celebration service, giving people a taste of what worship was like in past generations is also on the programme along with a cream tea to raise money for the stained glass window war memorial appeal.
