Cyclists in Tetbury may soon be able to cycle from the Goods Shed to the Trouble House pub

CYCLISTS in Tetbury could soon have a new way to enjoy the summer weather.
The Tetbury Rail Lands Trust (RLT) is hoping to be able to convert part of the track so cyclists will be able to cycle from the Goods Shed to the Trouble House pub north of the town.
The organisation is working to bring the town’s unused rail line, which was closed in the 1960s, into community use.
The proposal was discussed at a recent meeting of the Town Council, where town councillor and RLT member Cllr Fred Lockey said the organisation had been meeting with landowners along the route to secure rights of way.
“We’re not seeking large sums of money – we wouldn’t expect to have to tarmac it or to have to fence the whole track,” he said.
“It’s an opportunity for the community to really benefit and I would like the council to get behind it.”
Cllr Liz Farnham said she agreed the council would support the plans.
“Cycling is becoming a lot more important so I think we should offer this our support,” she said.
Town councillor and RLT member Cllr Stephen Hirst added, once the plans were complete, the next stage would be to extend the track all the way to Kemble train station.
The council agreed to support the plans and to assist the RLT in liasing with landowners.

You've only got to look at Google Maps (other mapping sites are available) to realise that the branch line goes straight through Kemble airfield, firstly there are safety considerations, secondly security considerations, I also wonder how they would stop people from getting a free airshow whilst the rest have paid their £20's to get in?
A bright idea that clearly has to date not been thoroughly thought through.
