UPDATE: Police believe they know Chippenham supermarket fire victim's identity
2:51pm Wednesday 8th August 2012 in News
CCTV of cyclist walking through Sainsbury's car park in Chippenham in the early hours of August 7.
Wiltshire Police believe they know the identity of a woman found dead following a fire in a supermarket car park.
Det Insp Matt Davey said the victim was a white woman in her 40s.
“We think we know who the woman is and are currently in the process of tracing her next of kin. We are following a number of lines of inquiry and are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances leading to this woman’s death.”
He thanked those who had come forward with information following an appeal, including a couple who walked through the car park at Sainsbury’s on Bath Road, Chippenham, at 2.11am on Tuesday and a motorist who drove through at 2.27am.
But he urged anyone else who was in the area between 1.30am and 3am, when the fire was discovered, to contact police.
Police have released CCTV images of a man with a bike and the occupants of a dark hatchback that went through the car park.
“We believe that this man and the occupants of that vehicle may have relevant information that would assist our inquiries,” he added.
Anyone with information can call Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
