LUCKY pupils from Cirencester Kingshill School had a night to remember when they formed a guard of honour for athletes making their way into the Olympic stadium.

The school’s Young Ambassadors, Rihad Rahman, Pat Whelan, Harry Wilson, Ellie Burston, Ellie Ramsey, Georgia Miller, Becky Giles and Lucy Mackenzie joined 2,000 other students lining the route from the athletes’ village.

Each school supported a different country, with Kingshill cheering for Turkey as well as team GB.

Ellie Ramsey, 14, said: “It was one of the best days of my life. We got to get really close to the athletes and I high-fived Tom Daley and Novak Djokovic. I will never forget it.”

Helen Pauling, school games organiser for the Cotswold School Sport Network accompanied the pupils along with deputy head Adrian Thomas.

Mrs Pauling said: “It was really exciting and the buzz at the Olympic park was fantastic. Students got to walk around the whole area and had their photos taken with some of the athletes.

“When we took our position in the line we were one of the first school’s that the athletes saw. It was an amazing atmosphere and when the Turkey team saw us cheering for them they all wanted their photos taken with us. We made sure that we saved some of our cheering for Team GB at the end. Although we didn’t get home till 3.30am it was a really special day.”
