THE Year 7 cricket team at Farmor’s School in Fairford ended their school term on a high after being crowned county champions. Following victories against Newent and Rednock, Farmor’s beat Pate’s school in the semi-final to face Cleeve School in the final.

On a difficult pitch to score on Farmor’s struggled to 60 for five off their 20 overs - Glenn Chalmers top scoring with 11.

Cleeve school had bowled and fielded very well and despite being disappointed at giving away 27 extras they were happy to only be chasing 61 for victory.

They were soon on double figures as Charlie Tamcken and Lewis Clayton set about the Farmor’s bowling, but then a great spell of bowling from Farmor’s captain Jacob David-Ward destroyed the Cleeve batting line up.

David-Ward bowled Tamcken and Jack Smart had Clayton caught by Calum Paton which created some pressure for the batting team.

A disastrous couple of run outs followed and in his third over David-Ward bowled four batsmen in four consecutive deliveries to leave Jack Smart to take the final wicket. Cleeve school fell from 11-2 to 12 all out in the space of 14 balls.

It was a great end to the term for this newly-formed young team.

Farmor’s PE teacher Paul Hockey said: “We’re delighted that the boys have done so well. First and foremost, they enjoy the sport, but to end the term as county champions is a wonderful achievement for these young pupils, especially given the difficult circumstances the weather has created of late. They are a fantastic group of boys and we look forward to developing their considerable talent in the coming years.”
