Concerns around parking in Moreton in-Marsh
11:02am Wednesday 25th July 2012 in News By Ian Craig
CONCERNS have been raised about drivers using an unused bus stop in Moreton-in-Marsh as a car park.
At this month’s meeting of the Town Council, town clerk Heather Sipthorpe said she had received a large amount of complaints that buses bringing tourists into the town were unable to let them off at the bus stop.
“We also had one incident where a driver hit a car parked there,” she said.
“It also causes danger for people alighting because they could be stepping right into the road.”
Town council chairman Cllr Colin Hancox agreed, and suggested the council contact Gloucestershire County Council ’s highways department to enquire about the possibility of having the area painted with hatched ‘no parking’ lines.
“I personally would like to have a consultation with highways and see how much hatchings will cost,” he said. “We certainly need hatched yellow lines there rather than hatched white lines.
“I personally think it’s important for the visitors to be able to come and bring a little bit of trade into the town.”
The council decided to contact GCC’s highways department to arrange a consultation, full details to be announced.
