Rock beats rain at Tetbury fiesta
9:00am Saturday 14th July 2012 in News By Ian Craig
YOUNG and old alike came together to rock the rain away at this year’s Tetbury Fiesta.
The day-long free charity festival – now in its fifth year – at Tetbury Memorial Recreation Ground on Sunday saw hundreds come from far and wide to enjoy a full billing of live bands.
The audience enjoyed performances from acts including self-confessed “load of old rockers” Rocks Berg and Welsh up-and-comers Innovence, with top Led Zeppelin tribute act Whole Lotta Led playing until it was to dark for them to see their guitar strings.
Thirteen-year-old Lily Baxter-Roseblade also wowed the crowd with an impromptu solo performance at the event, which raised money for a range of charities including Cotswold Care Hospice and the Adam Philby Memorial Skatepark.
Taking a cue from Wimbledon, rain briefly stopped play – although this didn’t deter popular local duo Harry Jones and Katie Smith who played on regardless – but the clouds soon parted and the festivities continued.
Fiesta organiser Ali Baxter thanked everyone who had helped to make the event a success.
“Just about everything outdoors has been ruined by the weather this summer, but we went ahead anyway to give the people of Tetbury a free day out in this time of recession, because we can,” he said.
“That’s the Fiesta motto – we do it because we can.”
