A MAN has been killed after being struck by a train in the Cotswolds.

The First Great Western train from Cheltenham to London hit the man as it went through a small tunnel at Sapperton yesterday at 1.12pm.

The railway line had to be closed for British Transport officers to investigate the death, although they have said it is not being treated as suspicious.

Great Western Ambulance Service and Network Rail attended the incident but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Network Rail spokesman John Baker said the train was taken from Sapperton to Kemble station just after 3pm and passengers were put on the next service.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.
