THE STANDARD and the family of Esme Clark would like to say thank you to the generosity of the Cotswold community for an overwhelming initial response to the Esme’s First Steps campaign.

The three-year-old from Whelford, who has cerebral palsy, needs to raise £50,000 in less than four weeks to pay for an operation that will help her to walk for the first time.

Since the appeal launched this week, donations have rocketed from around £8,000 to more than £26,500.

However there is still a long way to go before the mammoth target is reached, and more support is desperately needed.
