AN INTREPID Cirencester granddad has completed his bid to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Mick Ponting, a retired veterinary surgeon and lecturer at the Royal Agricultural College, set off in October on his bid to raise money for Miserden Primary School, where he is a governor and his five-year-old grandson Fred is a pupil.

The 68-year-old, who recently recovered from prostate cancer and took up cycling on the advice of his orthopaedic surgeon, took on the trip in stages, arriving at the most northerly part of the UK on Monday June 25.

Mick will be giving an illustrated talk on his epic journey at Miserden Village Hall at 7pm on Tuesday July 10.

For tickets, which include supper and a glass of wine, call 01289 821 976 or visit the village shop.
