Celebrity penguin celebrates fifth birthday

ONE of the Cotswolds’ most popular celebrities celebrated his fifth birthday earlier this month.
Spike the King Penguin, who lives at Birdland Park and Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water with his famous family and 500 other birds, has appeared on television, in adverts and Christmas cards and celebrated his birthday on Saturday June 9.
He also has more than 1,200 fans on his facebook page and even has his own Twitter account - @spikekingpeng – where his many fans can follow the day-to-day life of a king penguin.
Spike – who is now old enough to mate – is a popular fixture of the park’s daily penguin feeding at 2.30pm every day.
Spike and his family are currently playing host to Edinburgh Zoo’s famous King Penguins, who are staying at Birdland while their enclosure is refurbished.
