A DIAMOND day out was enjoyed by a record number of visitors when festival fever hit Cricklade.

Thrilled organisers of the Cricklade Town Festival estimated around 6,500 people turned out for the free Sunday event, which was showered with sunshine.

Entertainment, stalls and games crammed into the high street and a jubilee theme ran throughout the day with plenty of bunting in the air and union jack dress on the ground.

Festival committee chairman Nigel Wynne said the day was a huge success, particularly replacement headliners Twist and Pulse Dance Company, who wowed the crowds with their gravity defying dance routines.

Nigel said: "We had some difficulties leading up to the festival but it all ran like clockwork on the day. Everyone had a great time and people have said it was one of the best events – if not the best – so far."

The festival featured a full day of dance and music shows on the main stage. And hoards of revellers swarmed around a host of entertainers on the high street, including dance act Strictly Dumb Prancing and the "hysterical" Granny Tourismo comedy team.

After the biggest festival clean-up to date in the town, Nigel said the committee was already discussing how to make next year's event even better.
