ONE of the youngest town councillors in the country has been elected as Cirencester’s new deputy mayor.
Nineteen-year-old Cllr Joe Harris was elected to the post of Deputy Mayor at Tuesday’s meeting of the Town Council.
Although Cllr Roly Hughes was elected to the post at last month’s meeting, he had since decided to step down due to other commitments.
Cllr Harris, who set records as the youngest district councillor in the country when he was elected onto Cotswold District Council last year, said he was delighted to have been elected to the post.
“I think what I offer is a fresh start, fresh ideas and a fresh perspective,” he said.
Town mayor Cllr Andy Lichnowski welcomed Cllr Harris, thought to be the youngest deputy mayor in the country, to his new role, and said he was looking forward to working alongside him.
