WHEN a high-flying couple from the Cotswolds swapped business lunches for alpaca manure they were not sure how things would pan out.

But six years later and Adrian and Mym Holcombe of Latton Alpacas have an expanding herd of over 40 alpacas, a thriving craft shop and have now received a silver grading for their eco-friendly bed and breakfast.

The pair said they had not planned to open up the bed and breakfast originally but their half-day Alpaca Experiences, where people can meet and greet the fluffy creatures, had proved so popular it seemed like the obvious next step.

The former IT and recruitment specialists said they were delighted to receive the Green Tourism Business Scheme award.

Mym said: "We try to re-use everything we can, like using alpaca manure because it’s great for flowers and vegetables."

The special manure can be bought, along with alpaca scarf kits, spun balls, fleeced soaps and other goodies at the Alpaca Craft Shop at the Autumn Lodge Farm in Leigh, near Cricklade. The shop is open every Saturday from 10am to 4pm and offers free refreshments and alpaca viewing.

An overnight stay at the farm costs £50 for a double room, including a full continental breakfast. For more details on Latton Alpacas visit lattonalpacas.co.uk or call 01793 751195.
