Teenager arrested for Lechlade drink-driving

A TEENAGER was arrested for drink driving on the A417 near Lechlade at 8.45pm on Saturday May 26.

The 18-year-old Swindon woman, who was driving a grey Fiat 500, was taken to Cheltenham police station where she provided a further positive breath test.

She was charged with drink driving and driving without insurance and is due to appear at Stroud Magistrates Court on Monday June 25

Comments are allowed on a case yet to come before the Court? 'Sub judice' springs to mind.
The W&G certainly wets its toes in different waters as to when, or not, to allow Comments.

What a huge and stupid waste of Police time taking a Swindon woman from Lechlade to Cheltenham for a second breath test, its about time the plod stopped plodding on as nif there hasn't been a recession and stopped chucking money around like confetti and drove the short distance to SWINDON where the girl lived instead of TWICE AS FAR to CHELTENHAM
Get a grip, stop wasting our hard earned tax.

You are wrong Union Man. The woman committed the alleged offence in Gloucestershire; she was arrested in Gloucestershire by Gloucestershire police and in due course she will appear before magistrates in Gloucestershire. To me it seems right and proper that she should be taken to a Gloucestershire police station and where she lives is totally immaterial.

What is wrong however, is that financial cuts mean that there was nowhere in Gloucestershire nearer than Cheltenham where she could be taken for the confirmatory test.

Exactly my point, the bureaucratic nonsense about which county one is in rather than where the nearest police station is is something we need to address in this era of cuts.
It also begs the question whether it was cost effective to arrest her in the first place, or whether a decent fine would be more appropriate than a driving ban.

Alas esse quam viderie, you are the one that is wrong and by a country mile. The Police And Criminal Evidence Act 1984 specifically states that the detained person should go to the nearest PACE station, it does not allow for county or constabulary boundaries.
