Make sure bin bags are tied up properly, residents asked
1:46pm Thursday 24th May 2012 in News By Ian Craig
RESIDENTS in the Cotswolds are being reminded to make sure black bin bags are properly tied up before they are collected.
Cotswold District Council’s waste contractor SITA UK has reported many residents have been over filling their bins, meaning the bags often spill over the lifting equipment and onto the road.
This can cause health and safety hazards, as well as delays in waste collections and can inconvenience passing motorists.
CDC Waste Manager Scott Williams said he understood why people used wheelie bins to deposit their waste.
“I can understand why residents place the black bags in the grey bins to make it easier to deposit their waste.
“The problem is that some people forget to tie the bags before they are collected,” he added.
“It doesn’t take long to secure the tops when the bags are being presented for collection and I hope that everyone will remember to do this now we have pointed out the problems that arise when they are unsecured.”
