REVELLERS heading out to enjoy the Olympic torch relay have been advised to come prepared for hot weather.

With the torch heading through Wiltshire today and travelling through Cirencester and Cheltenham tomorrow, Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) is urging people to take precautions.

GWAS service is advising people to bring a bottle of water, sun cream and a sun hat and to make sure they have any prescription medicines they may need, such as asthma inhalers, with them.

The advice has been prompted by large crowds on the first few days of the relay and a forecast of very warm weather throughout the rest of the week.

GWAS operational commander Jessica Burston the ambulance service was poised to make sure the event goes smoothly.

“It is clear that crowds lining the route of the relay have been far higher than organisers anticipated – with many people sensibly making sure they arrive in plenty of time,” she said.

“The forecast for much warmer, sunnier weather this week is likely to further increase crowd numbers – and makes it even more important that people have a few sensible items with them on the day.

“We have fully-trained ambulance personnel shadowing the relay throughout its journey in the GWAS region, but our advice is for people to take some sensible precautions to reduce the chances of them needing us and spoiling their enjoyment of being a part of the biggest sporting event ever to come to Britain.”
