A COACH from Cirencester Kingshill School who has inspired a generation of youngsters into athletics will be running with the Olympic torch in Brockworth this Wednesday.

Christina See, 52, was chosen from thousands to be an Olympic torchbearer.

The Kingshill coach runs a popular after-school athletics club at Kingshill School and was named as the school’s coach of the year in 2011.

She said: “My sister, Catherine and my daughter, Rachel nominated me to be an Olympic Torchbearer. I always wanted to compete in the Olympics when I was younger, but never made it, so to me this is the next best thing and one I will never forget.”

Christina, who is a member of Cheltenham Athletics Club, started running 36 years ago Windsor, Slough and Eton Athletics Club and even ran races with the legendary Zola Budd.

After moving to the Cotswolds and having two children she continued to run, and has completed the London marathon three-times for local charities.

She also qualified as a level 2 UK athletics endurance coach and helped to set up Northleach running club.

Her fundraising has continued and she has completed the London to Brighton Bike Ride three times raising money for the British Heart Foundation.

As a coach at Cirencester Kingshill School and through her work at Cheltenham Athletics Club she continues to motivate the athletes of the future. “I love every minute of it and will continue to run, compete and enable others to reach their full potential until I am physically unable,” she said.
