CONCERNED residents in Siddington met with Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-brown last week to discuss their worries over safety for pedestrians in the village.
Residents in the village have become concerned about the difficulty for pedestrians walking from North Siddington into the centre of the village.
Concerns have also been raised over a broken piece of pavement on the Siddington Road meaning that walkers travelling into Cirencester are forced to cross the road at a corner where traffic may not see them in time.
At the meeting on March 27, which was attended by parish councillors and concerned residents, it was agreed to prepare a plan to deal with the problem by extending the pavement.
Mr Clifton-Brown said he felt the meeting was extremely productive.
“The problems caused by the break in the pavement on the Siddington Road are obvious to all and there is a significant risk, as we witnessed during our visit, to anyone who crosses the road there given the proximity to a blind corner,” he added.
“I am, therefore, extremely heartened that all parties have agreed to prepare details of a scheme to extend the pavement and eliminate this unnecessary risk to pedestrians.”
The group hope that improvements can be carried out within this financial year under Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways Community Offer scheme.
GCC’s local highways manager Scott Macaulay-Lowe said: “Through our Highways Community Offer scheme, GCC is working alongside Siddington Parish Council to address long standing concerns over footway provision in the village.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the Parish, with the aim of delivering the appropriate scheme for the area."
