CONCERNED residents in Siddington met with Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-brown last week to discuss their worries over safety for pedestrians in the village.

Residents in the village have become concerned about the difficulty for pedestrians walking from North Siddington into the centre of the village.

Concerns have also been raised over a broken piece of pavement on the Siddington Road meaning that walkers travelling into Cirencester are forced to cross the road at a corner where traffic may not see them in time.

At the meeting on March 27, which was attended by parish councillors and concerned residents, it was agreed to prepare a plan to deal with the problem by extending the pavement.

Mr Clifton-Brown said he felt the meeting was extremely productive.

“The problems caused by the break in the pavement on the Siddington Road are obvious to all and there is a significant risk, as we witnessed during our visit, to anyone who crosses the road there given the proximity to a blind corner,” he added.

“I am, therefore, extremely heartened that all parties have agreed to prepare details of a scheme to extend the pavement and eliminate this unnecessary risk to pedestrians.”

The group hope that improvements can be carried out within this financial year under Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways Community Offer scheme.

GCC’s local highways manager Scott Macaulay-Lowe said: “Through our Highways Community Offer scheme, GCC is working alongside Siddington Parish Council to address long standing concerns over footway provision in the village.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the Parish, with the aim of delivering the appropriate scheme for the area."

Regerme's school road safety scheme is not restricted to areas around schools and can be implemented by communities anywhere.

Regerme has launched a free to use road safety scheme. The scheme is being promoted across the world wide web with its 'school road safety' component being promoted in school newsletters with the intention of making the roads safer for our children.
Council austerity measures are looking to cut crossing patrols in some areas (at approx 6k per patrol).
The safety of our children is not somebody else’s responsibility and peer pressure is a proven method to change behaviour
Regerme have provided a FREE to use platform to communicate through the medium of vehicle registration numbers by posting pictures and comments.
This innovative altruistic website has road safety for schools, how's my driving and road rage reporting components.
Launched last week and already supported by a number of MPs and approved by senior police officers around the country the scheme needs the public as well as media on board to gain further traction. PLEASE POST YOUR CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS OR PICTURES ON THE SITE
It's FREE, it works and could save lives. What other reason do you need?
If you drive the scheme is not something you can opt out of. Search regerme, log on and check your registration. You may have a comment.
Thank you

Great to see a broken paving slab getting such attention but what is the MP specifically doing about the Tory broken local government as per current edition of Private Eye?

As a local resident I dont give a flying **** what's in Private Eye, but I'd care about the broken pathing slab if I went ****ing flying! So yes by all means concentrate on fixing local issues.
