Tax expert issues warning to small businesses

A TAX expert has issued advice to help small businesses in the Cotswolds and Wiltshire get vital bank lending.

Roger Mills, who runs TaxAssist Accountants in Bourton-on-the-Water, says he has been contacted by a number of entrepreneurs in the area who have been finding it hard to access finance to sustain and grow their business.

He has advised that if they have a strong business case, they should not take no for an answer.

"Sole traders and companies are among the victims of the £1billion shortfall in bank lending to small businesses, but for many the door to vital funding could be opened by following some simple ground rules," he said.

"Budding entrepreneurs should have a clear business plan and cashflow forecast backed up by reliable evidence and a good track record, show the money will be paid back and is enough for the business and owner's living costs, and always keep their bank up to date."
