A RECORD set ten years ago during previous jubilee celebrations in Cirencester is to be challenged by the town again.
As part of the Cirencester Sparkles celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on June 4, teams are being challenged to create a tower constructed simply of newspapers and sticky tape in just six hours.
Retired engineer Herbert Mould, of South Cerney, is organising the event and said he came up with the idea because the Queen wanted celebrations to reach into communities and involve everyone.
"The task is designed to encourage and develop thinking initiative and teamwork skills, but more importantly the emphasis is in making sure teams taking part enjoy themselves," he said.
The event is being sponsored by Cirencester Science and Technology Society and is open to individual teams of schoolage children as well as a special category for families.
Entries, including a daytime telephone number and the name, address and contact number of the team leader, should be sent to Cirencester Town Council at Dyer House, 3 Dyer Street, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, GL7 2PP.
