A BARMAID in Cirencester received a top tip during Cheltenham's Gold Cup week when she was left £2,000 by a grateful punter.

Stunned Jessica Valentines Peters, 21, had been telling the unnamed customer about her passion for horses during a shift at Seventeen Black Wine Bar and Nightclub.

The drinker, believed to be from the Midlands, spent the afternoon in the Castle Street bar with friends and when he paid by cheque it included the generous gratuity tip.

"I told him about my love of horses and how I was hoping to buy a new one soon" she added. "He had been to the races every day but did not have a ticket for Friday so watched it in Cirencester.

"He was very quiet and so lovely, which is why I don’t want to give out his name."

Jess shared the wealth with colleagues at 17 Black but kept enough to be able to buy a cob gelding called Theo.
