A CIRENCESTER charity shop worker and yoga teacher has put a new spin on fundraising and hopes that fast cars will steer her closer to her £5,000 target.
Lucy Loquette, 50, assistant manager for Sue Ryder Charity shop in Cirencester’s marketplace, plans to run the London marathon for the first time ever in April for the Leckhampton hospice “I have never run a marathon before and am 50 years old. I am putting myself through terrible pain and have to take ibuprofen three times a day. I am getting a lot of help from a personal trainer at Cotswold Leisure, Scott Williams and doing my yoga helps to counter-balance the running,” she explained.
And to help reach her £5,000 fundraising target she is organising a race day at Castle Combe circuit on 17 March, offering 15 minute passenger rides in cars, including a porche, caterham, TVR, radical or impreza.
“Drivers with fast cars can book a track day but we are also selling passenger slots so people have the chance to get a white knuckle ride. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get in a fast car and have a whizz round in completely safe hands,” said Ms Loquette.
All the money raised will go directly to the Leckhampton hospice. “It is our local hospice for people in the area with life threatening challenges. Sue Ryder is the only provider of hospice beds in the area. They do a fantastic job but it costs £2 million a year to run it,” she said.
