LIBRARY goers are invited to pick up a classic and enjoy a Dickens of a Week in Fairford.

The town’s library is holding the special event from Monday, February 6 to Saturday, February 11 to mark the bicentenary of the author Charles Dickens’ birth on February 7, 1812.

Book lovers young and old can learn about the Victorian novelist’s life from a special display, borrow some of his classic books and test their knowledge on a free Dickens quiz.

Susie Mitchell, principal library assistant, said: “We want to encourage people to read Dickens. This week highlights his works and lets people know that we do have many of them here.”

Fairford library is open from 9.30am to 5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9.30am to 7pm on Thursdays and 9.30am to 1pm on Saturdays. The library is closed on Tuesdays and Fridays.
