A FAIRFORD councillor has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year honours list.
Cllr Trevor Hing said he felt humbled and privileged to be chosen for the award for his services to the community.
Since moving to Fairford in 1976, Cllr Hing has had his hand in many aspects of the community and has contributed to making the town a vibrant festival location.
The former mayor has been a member of the town council for more than 20 years, and spent the same number of years as a govenor at Farmor’s School in Fairford.
He has also dedicated around 15 years to his role as chairman of the Fairford Festival, which takes place in June and has been a driving force behind an emergency action group put in place after the town’s 2007 floods.
Cllr Hing said he was delighted when he got the letter through, but said it was the hardest thing to wait for six weeks to tell his family and friends about it.
“It’s a great honour to be recognised in this way. I’m humbled by it and it’s nice to think that people thought enough of my efforts to nominate me.”
