SPECSAVERS in Cirencester and the Wilts & Glos Standard have teamed up for the second time to launch their spec-tacular photographic competition to find Cirencester’s best amateur photographer.

The lucky winner will take home a £500 Jessops voucher while a runner-up will receive a £200 voucher, also for Jessops. Both will also receive a pair of designer specs worth £125 which includes Pentax single vision lenses, courtesy of Specsavers.

The store at 30 Cricklade Street and the newspaper are challenging local amateur photographers to capture the essence of a Cotswold Autumn/Winter. Whether it’s a beautiful countryside scene, a well known landmark or just something that epitomises the Cotswolds during the Autumn/Winter – it is that simple.

The competition is open to amateur photographers of any age so when you are out and about over the next few weeks, make sure you take your camera with you as you never know when you might stumble across the perfect picture.

Catherine Perkinton, store director at Specsavers in Cirencester and herself a keen photographer, says: "The competition was a great success last time so we wanted to run it again and give local people the opportunity to showcase their photographic talents. The change in weather should also hopefully provide ample opportunity for some fantastic shots which I’m sure will make the judging process a difficult one."

The Wilts & Glos Standard will be showcasing some of the best photographs throughout the coming weeks in both the paper and an online gallery. A shortlist will be selected by Standard editor Skip Walker and Catherine Perkinton. These shortlisted photographers will then be invited to a presentation ceremony at the Brewery Arts Centre, Cirencester in December.

After this, the photographs will also be put on display at Specsavers where they will be auctioned off for charity. The closing date for entries is Thursday, November 24.

For the chance to be named Cirencester’s Amateur Photographer of the Year, send your photo to richard.pasco@wiltsglosstandard.co.uk along with your name, address, daytime phone number and where your photo was taken.
