MUSIC dominates the next week of events from Malmesbury Carnival.

Local pianist Kes Smith is providing a new musical accompaniment to a showing of Buster Keaton’s epic silent film The General tomorrow night (AUG26)at St Mary’s Hall.

He has devised the score to complement the action on the screen.

And local talent will feature again on Saturday when the Old Bell and the Kings Arms take it in turns to host a Musical Walkabout.

Conspiritas will offer, American and Brazilian bossa novas, the Malmesbury School students making up Case Study will combine some new and old rock while various musicians from the town have joined forces for Malmesbury Sings Dylan.

The wind band from Malmesbury Music Academy is also part of the programme.

And for those who want to dance, the Flying Monk Band is in action in the evening at St Mary’s Hall.

Sunday sees the town centre taken over by of the carnival’s most popular events, Petticoat Lane, which helps to support local charities, while on Monday it is the turn of art, crafts and gardening to shine with the instant art exhibition on the abbey railings and the garden Club annual show in the town hall.

Music returns to the Cloister Gardens on Monday afternoon, with performers including, Simon Temperton, young violinist Theo May, Peter Wilcock and the Dubious Brothers, as well as Corky, fresh from his recent appearance supporting The Wurzels.

An evening with popular tenor Tim Pitman follows at the town hall on Tuesday.
