NEIGHBOURS in Cirencester are urging residents to join their fight against developers who want to build 100 homes.

Bowling Green residents have joined forces to submit an application so the piece of land that developer Baylight Properties has in its sights can be made an official village green.

The Humpty Dumps – in the Whiteway ward – has been a popular green space for several decades and campaigning neighbours are to submit the application by September.

And to boost their chances of being successful, they are calling on other residents to get involved.

Campaigner Tim McGrath said the group had collected more than 40 forms already.

"The land has been used by the community for over 50 years," he said.

"What we want to do now is make sure that we get as many people to return the forms as possible.

"We have also prepared a help sheet to make answering the questions on the form a bit clearer. Bundles of postcards are available to anyone and we are trying to get them placed in shops and offices in the town."
