FED-UP residents of Cirencester town centre are calling for a ban on a promotional night for students of the Royal Agricultural College at one of the town’s nightclubs.

Late-night revellers are causing misery for residents of Ashcroft Road who say they are woken up every week by noisy drunk RAC students on their way home from The Rock nightclub in Bishop's Walk.

In one recent incident Tesco shopping trolleys were pushed up and down the road while some students were seen urinating in people’s front gardens.

Mother-of-one Rachel Britton has lived on Ashcroft Road for over a year.

She said: "We are all at our wits end with it. The amount of times my son has been woken up at 3am is ridiculous. It’s affecting my family so I’m going to fight it every step of the way now.

"They are all absolutely inebriated and we are the ones suffering – Friday and Saturday nights aren’t even a problem compared to the student nights.

"Last Wednesday they were urinating in people’s gardens and walls and riding around in trolleys. – it’s a nightmare.

A petition is being signed by residents of the area which will be handed to Cotswold District Council’s licensing officers. A Facebook group has also been set up in support of the petition.

Mrs Britton’s neighbour Emily Davidson added: "You do expect a certain amount of noise when you live in the town centre – but now I have had enough.

"They were reenacting the Gold Cup in trolleys the other week."

But Biagio Vitale, owner of The Rock, branded the petition 'ridiculous'.

"It’s a large part of our business," he said. "We are a responsible club and we do everything possible to minimise the problems for local residents.

"It’s like a football club and hooligans – you don’t get petitions to close a football club down because there’s a few problems."

He said he organised a minibus to take students back to the college on Wednesday nights but it had been unavailable on the week in question as it was ferrying holidaymakers home who were stuck abroad because of the volcanic ash cloud.

A spokesman for the RAC said they would continue to work with police and the nightclub to limit any disturbance to local residents.
