A SPECTACULAR display of colourful rockets, fire crackers and sparklers helped entertain the crowds at Cirencester Round Table's annual fireworks display at the weekend.

Thousands of people from the Cirencester area packed into Setts Farm on Saturday evening to enjoy a dazzling display of fireworks.

Last week organisers Cirencester Round Table had promised the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot would go off with a bang - and it certainly did.

As usual the ever-popular Deidre the Dragon lit the enormous bonfire, while the fireworks display itself wowed the crowd for at least half an hour.

CRT spokesman Rob Gibson said: "We were absolutely ecstatic with the response of the public and sponsors of the event.

"Everything just came together and it was a brilliant evening - there was a kaleidoscope of colour in the sky and the bottom line is we've raised £4,000 for charity, which is a credit to the community of Cirencester.

"I will be writing to the Standard to thank all those who supported us."

Car drivers also had no problems despite the same light rain which caused a few people to get struck in the field last year.

Rob added: "The site worked really well and there were no parking problems.

"We closed off a section of the field which had water and had additional parking where the ground was a lot firmer."

The £4,000 raised on the night will be donated to local charities. Organisations wanting to apply for funding should call Matthew Harrison on 07793 068814.
