CIRENCESTER'S Nitroject Action Sports team proved it has strength in depth during last weekend's second round of the British Jet Sport Racing Championships held at the Cotswold Water Park.

There was an array of local riders racing in all classes that included at least one young star of tomorrow, Luke Brookes, out in the Junior Ski Division.

He had a great battle with Lewis Goodchild and some close racing saw Luke finishing second in both of his races for a second place overall on the day.

Next up was Sports Class in which two of the five competitors were Nitrojet riders.

John Malin, who had an excellent outing, was leading his first race until an untimely dismount dropped him back to third.

But with another third position in his second race, John stood proudly on the podium at the end of the day.

Then it was on to Novice Stock Runabout where Nitrojet had a quartet of racers out.

Their best performance came from Swindon's Perry Field who, due to an unfortunate incident in the first race, was placed down in eighth spot.

Determined not one to let himself or his team mates down, young Perry put all worries well and truly behind him by storming home for the very first win of his racing career in the second event.

Some real gutsy racing and shear determination pulled him out on top and put him sixth overall for the day and only 15 points behind the championship leader.

Will Young enjoyed some fantastic dicing and two top-three finishes gave him a podium finish for the day. Young, currently in fourth position overall, has got Perry snapping at his heels ready for the next round.

And finally came the turn of the big boys. The main event, Open Runabout and Superstock, saw Nitrojet once again well represented by two riders - although they suffered contrasting fortunes.

First up was veteran Dave Jackson, who had a couple of good races that gave him a respectable fifth overall on the day.

However, due to an unfortunate accident during Saturday's practice, Danny Thornton missed out on Sunday's racing.

Not one to dwell on bad luck for too long, Danny is well on the road to recovery and will be ready make his presence felt in the next round.
