CIRENCESTER Town are this week celebrating their promotion to the newly formed Dr Marten's Premier League with four games still to play.

The Centurions secured promotion with a 1-0 win at Team Bath on Saturday and a point from a goal-less draw at home to Clevedon on Monday, making it the most successful league campaign in the club's history.

Town general manager Anna Kocerhan said: "We've exceeded all our expectations. We were hopeful that we'd get promotion, but to have done it with four games to go is really fantastic."

Cirencester, whose last fixture of the season is home to league leaders Redditch on May 1, could ultimately decided the championship race as the other title hopefuls, Gloucester City, are hard on the heels of the Midlanders.

This Saturday, Cirencester play hosts to Ilkeston Town in a match being sponsored by the Standard (3pm ko).

Cirencester Town secured maximum points with a 1-0 win against a star-studded Team Bath side on Saturday to keep their challenge for honours on course.

Early on, Town keeper Paul Thompson saved bravely at the feet of Caleb Kamara-Taylor.

On 15 minutes, Town opened the scoring when Darren Robison knocked a through ball for Scott Griffin to put over a perfect cross, giving Gareth Hopkins the easiest of chances for his sixth goal in a week.

From a corner, Wimble's cross was only half-cleared and Adam Mayo fired over from six yards.

With Michael Jackson pulling the strings for Cirencester in midfield, Team Bath were finding it difficult to create anything in the visitors' half.

And Cirencester were unlucky not to increase their lead on the stroke of half-time when Wimble forced a mix-up in the home defence, but Griffin couldn't direct his header into the empty net.

The second half started with Cirencester again on the attack. A great ball from Alan Bird left Griffin in space and his lay-off saw Mike Davis' powerful shot well saved by Hines.

In the closing stages, Bath pushed extra men forward and stepped up the pace and, from a free kick 25 yards out, Beadle's powerful, curling shot was saved at full stretch by Thompson.

At the other end, Wimble won the ball and set Hopkins free and his powerful shot was just over from inside the box.

Then a Town goal from a free kick was unfortunately flagged for offside. In the last ten minutes, Hines had to come quickly off his line to deny both Griffin and Wimble and, at the other end, Thompson was equal to Luke Prince's powerful shot.

Town assured themselves of promotion to the new Premier League, but it was a struggle against a battling Clevedon side and Cirencester did well to come away with a point in a 0-0 draw.

There were few chances in the entire game, although a Gareth Hopkins' shot was well saved by Peter Trego. Shortly after, it was Trego who saved from a powerful Shaun Wimble shot.

Michael Davis was making several good runs down the right and, from one, he found Michael Jackson clear who could not find any power in his final shot.

In the second half, Ben Fitch, who had replaced Davis at half- time, had a couple of good runs to stretch the visitors' defence.

Both sides found it difficult to create any clear-cut openings. Darren Robison, though, was unlucky when he got on the end of a Wimble cross, only to see his powerful volley cleared off the line.

In the closing stages, Gary Wotton went close with a powerful header and, right on full time, Mike Regan's attempted lob was put wide of the target.
